Clinical supervision is a process of professional support and development that helps budding therapists to improve their clinical skills, maintain ethical standards, and promote their well-being. It typically involves regular meetings between a budding therapist and a Certified Professional Counseling Supervisor who provides guidance, feedback, and support.
The primary goal of clinical supervision is to enhance the quality of therapy services by ensuring that budding therapists are providing effective treatment, adhering to ethical and professional standards, and taking care of their own well-being. During the supervision process, the supervisor may review therapy sessions, provide feedback and suggestions for improvement, offer guidance on ethical and legal issues, and help the budding therapist to develop new skills and techniques.
Clinical supervision is required for therapists in training or those who are newly licensed, but it can also be helpful for more experienced therapists who want to enhance their skills and stay up-to-date with current best practices or improving competencies in specific areas.
Requirements for those seeking licensure in the State of Georgia:
Rule 135-5-.01. Supervision means the direct clinical review, for the purpose of training or teaching, by a supervisor of a Professional Counselor's interaction with their client(s). The purpose of supervision is to promote the development of the practitioner's clinical skills. Supervision may include, without being limited to, the review of case presentations, audiotapes, videotapes, and direct observation of the practitioner's clinical skills. Supervision does not require the supervisor to be present at the work site with the supervisee. Supervision may be provided pro bono or for a fee. Both supervisors and supervisees are required to maintain a contemporaneous record of the date, duration, type (individual, paired, or group), and a brief summary of the pertinent activity for each supervision session to be submitted to the Board upon request. If there are any discrepancies in hours, contemporaneous documentation of supervision will be requested.
Individual: Individual supervision will occur once a month for an hour and 30 minutes. During individual supervision, we set your professional goals for supervision and discuss the supervision process. Sessions will be spent reviewing audio and/or video recordings and case notes of sessions, providing feedback and evaluation of progress. Every quarter you will receive a formal evaluation of progress. All supervision sessions are held virtually.
Group: Group supervision will occur three times a month for one hour and 30 minutes. We will discuss cases and provide feedback as a group. It will include general discussions on topics such as, but not limited to, ethics, professional activities, interventions, and the impact of current affairs on clinical practice. Group supervision is limited to four participants at a time. All supervision sessions are held virtually.
Commitment: There is a 12-month commitment for supervision. Total cost for is $4,200 which is paid in monthly installments of $350. Group sessions are with a maximum of 4 people and individual sessions can be conducted in pairs.
If you are interested in receiving supervision, but not within the cohort model, individual sessions are available to be scheduled for 6 hours each month.
Commitment: There is a 12-month commitment for supervision. Total cost is $650 per month.
